If you’re having a problem with EFI issues such as a rich AFR condition, idle surging or backfiring, watch the video below to see how I fixed these problems or view the quick checklist.
Rich AFR:
Holley power Wires Straight to battery including negative wire?
Battery maintains 12.7 volts?
Alternator charging between 13.5V - 14.5V?
No drop from Alternator, to battery, to ECU?
Engine properly grounded?
Headers flat and gasket correct?
Exhaust pipes have no leaks, checked by flashlight in a dark room?
Any clamps or hardware not correctly tightened?
02 Sensor correctly mounted?
Valves correctly lashed?
Checked data log for obvious problems?
Idle Surge:
ECU settings correct for camshaft type?
ECU settings correct for E-Fan control?
Verified no vacuum leaks?
PCV system correctly installed?
PCV system has correct vacuum source?
Throttle cable has no binding and is pulled straight back and returns?
Secondary throttle springs can overcome vacuum of a large displacement motor, while running?
Added a wrap to secondary throttle springs or purchased a replacement aftermarket spring system / linkage?
Verified where you may hear a large whooshing sound when idle surge occurs?
Ensured TPS and idle setup in the ECU is properly configured after each trouble shooting change?
Checked datalog for radio frequency interference?
Back Firing:
Ensure wizard correctly configured and running most current firmware?
Valve lashing correct?
Battery is serviceable?
Checked datalog for radio frequency interference?
Ensured timing is correct?
No wiring is left exposed or close to ignition sources?
Wiring wrapped with RFI shielding?
